$16.01 $19.37
Description Title: Antique Saryk Rug Size: 1.58×1.09m / 5’2″x3’7″ Origin: Turkestan Technique: Hand-knotted Material: Wool pile, with wool warps and wefts. Double weft construction. Colours and Design: Matured browny-red. It has a classic geometric pattern of a repeating theme of Guls.  Condition/Age: All over low pile with a couple of tiny spot stains (see image 6). This Rug has been cleaned and the ends and sides have been secured. It dates from the Late 19th/Early 20th Century. Additional Information: In terms of pattern, the rugs produced by the Saryk tribe are similar to those produced by the Tekke tribe.  The pattern consists of a repeating theme of motifs known as “guls”. Gul means flower. Each Turkoman tribe has it’s own gul. This is like a tribal emblem. The Saryk and Tekke guls are very similar. Both are quartered, stepped octagon motifs. The Saryk Gul typically has a cross in the centre of the gul. The Gul formation is freestanding whereas the Tekke Guls are generally connected. The distinctive weave identifies the Saryk Rug. The warp threads are on two levels which creates a ribbed back (this can be seen in picture 8).
